A church app is more than just a fun gadget, we at Donkey Mobile always sayyears. In the Nicolaïkerk, a medium-sized church in Utrecht, they canafter a year of use. We spoke with Karin Dikken, who works as a supervisorwas involved in the introduction of the app.
"Of course we had our doubts about using a church app. Isthat something for us? Does it add something besides the newsletter and website? Will we lose church members who do not want or cannot download the app?out of sight? In the end, the strict corona measures convinced us.At times when it is difficult to be physically together, the app ensures that
that we still remain connected to each other. This is how it appeared in thelockdown period all kinds of messages from church members in the app. What peoplenormally we might discuss this over coffee after church, now reported in the app. And in the summer, a time when many people are on vacationa temporary group 'Holiday Stories' was set up to keep each other informedto keep abreast of special moments.

Everyone is surprisingly fast familiar with the app.

Everyone has become surprisingly familiar with the app quickly. Where I expectedto assist people in creating profiles or usingThere have been hardly any technical questions about the app. Within a fewIn weeks we had over a hundred users and now, a year later, almosttwo hundred. There are also people who live elsewhere but are indirectly
are involved in the community and would like to stay informed. The collectionenvironment, the parishioners find it convenient to use. And it is very nice thatGuests can also participate in the collection via a QR code on that page.In this way we hope to be completely free of coins very soon.
The app has now become established and is definitely an addition to the weeklynewsletter. This is made on Tuesday and digitally on Wednesday and Sundayphysically distributed. For current messages the app is therefore more suitable.“Don't forget there's a circle tonight,” the elder Formation &
Equipment sometimes and pastors and church musicians regularly share informationabout services. People are enthusiastic about the profile pictures. Names andfaces are easier to combine. All this makes the app anice way to stay connected to each other. For example, during Lent there was a group called 'Track of Light', in which coordinationren of neighborhood circles inspired each other with texts and experiences. This groupwill be continued in Advent. And a book club has recently been started toto give each other tips about books. It is very nice when members of the congregation take photos
places of activities that they experience together outside of Sunday. FromI had previously hoped that the app would be used in this way and itThe nice thing is: that's exactly how it turned out."
